Conductor and pianist based in Portland, Oregon (USA). Lance Inouye is the Artistic Director and The Portland Concert Opera, pianist/coach and conductor with Portland Opera, and Professor of Music at Lewis & Clark College where he is Director of Orchestral Activities and Music Director and Conductor of the Lewis & Clark Orchestra. Inouye previously served on the conducting staff of the Florida Grand Opera in Miami, the Sarasota Opera (Florida), and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in Portland, Oregon.

Previous positions include Music Director of The Opera Intimi Project, Tel Aviv, Israel, Conducting Assistant with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Cover Conductor for the Norwalk Symphony and the Sarasota Orchestra. In the U.S., Inouye has appeared as guest conductor with Salem Philharmonia, Willamette Valley Symphony, Walla Walla Symphony, Temple University Opera Theatre (Die Zauberflöte), Naples Philharmonic, Honolulu Symphony, and the College-Conservatory of Music Philharmonia and Concert Orchestras in Cincinnati where he served as Assistant Conductor. Active in contemporary music, Inouye has also conducted a number of world premieres in New York’s Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

In Russia, Inouye has led the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra “Klassika,” Karelia Philharmonic, Sochi Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic of which he served as Associate Conductor for three seasons.

Inouye has been a prizewinner at recent competitions including Makris International Conducting Competition in Belgrade, Serbia (2nd prize), the Dittrich International Conducting Competition with the Duna Symphony Orchestra in Budapest, Hungary, and the International Conducting Workshop and Competition in Atlanta, Georgia.

Inouye received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, post-graduate studies in Russia at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory “Rimsky-Korsakov,” and was a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival (American Academy of Conducting at Aspen).
