Violin
Konstantinos Demirtzoglou was born in Athens into a family of musicians and began violin lessons at the age of six. After winning a scholarship, he studied at the Atheneum Conservatory and later continued his training with Maria Kaliontzi at the Athens Conservatory. In 2000, he was admitted to the Moscow Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, where he graduated under Professor Marina Kesselman, specializing in violin pedagogy and orchestral performance.
He continued his studies at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria, where his research focused on Austrian Baroque music and resulted in the thesis Heinrich Ignaz Biber und sein Violinschaffen. He also holds a Master’s degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Nicosia, graduating with distinction (Summa Cum Laude, 2016). His master’s research focused on contemporary Cypriot music and the works of Faidros Kavallaris, comprising two parts: Faidros Kavallaris: Violin Works and Faidros Kavallaris: A Thematic Catalogue of the Complete Works.
During his studies, he won the “Podium” competition in Austria in the chamber music category and participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned artists such as Zakhar Bron, Ludmila Limorova, and Maighréad McCrann. As a performer, he has presented works by Cypriot composers including Faidros Kavallaris, Evagoras Karagiorgis, Constantinos Stylianou, and Solon Michaelides. His concert activity has taken him to Great Britain, Austria, Russia, China, Cyprus, and Greece.
Mr. Demirtzoglou has taught at the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Youth Academy, the Nicosia Provincial Orchestra, and the Musical Talent Development Programme of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the University of Cyprus, where he served for ten years. During the same period, he was an associate violinist of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. He currently works as a violin professor at the Music Schools of the Ministry of Education.
He is presently a PhD candidate at the Department of Music of the European University of Cyprus, pursuing his doctoral studies with a scholarship from the Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation. He is a founding member and first violinist of the Concordia String Quartet, concertmaster of the orchestral ensemble Orchestra Ostinata, and a member of the String Instruments Teachers Society of the Hellenic Association for Music Education.
